Locale Wish #2

Learning some tough and fun lessons on watercolor. Gonna try and not be afraid to lay down some color to avoid the muckiness. At the same time I gotta learn to be patient, ’cause I love overlaying colors once they dry and letting the eye mix them on the paper. It’s a balancing act. I inked this with crowquills, which to me feels completely natural and I love the line. However, the brush lines seem to have a friendlier look to them (see my last few posts), at least with color. I’m so confused as to which one to use. What’s your vote, nib or brush w/the colors? Or am I just so anal retentive that only people as O.C. as I am would notice? Cartoonists, please chime in … HELP!

Perhaps this is coming only from my own recent interest to work more often with with the self same tool, but I want to throw my hat in the Brush ring. I think you’re right that the brushed lines of your recent drawings do seem to exude more personality that the nibbed lines and, somehow, seem to work better in combination with color. But, you know, I might be totally delusional also.

Maybe it’s because brushes are used to lay down the color and therefore are a more natural fit to use for line as well? Thanks for your input, Henry.
