I finally got a chance to get back to this cover this morning. It’s coming along. I am certainly “feeling it” on this one, and my other recent projects. Things are wonderfully coalescing, which is thrilling and makes it even more fun for me to draw! I now can’t wait to get to the next one. This cover rough is for the Christmas issue of Comicopia, the world’s coolest amateur press association (yes, they’re still out there, though they are few and far between, and YES, they are way more awesome than an online message board.) I feel like I know these individuals even though I’ve yet to meet even one of them, though they all have an open invitation to visit the Queen City. I had the same feeling about the last APA I was involved with, APA-5, which bit the dust with a fizzle after many wonderful years once a new central mailer just up and r-u-n-n-o-f-t’ed. I still wonder if that fella got murdered, sent to jail, lost at sea, or wound up in an insane asylum somewhere. (Obviously I look for the simplest answers when it comes to such matters.) Anyway, my buddy Jay will be inking this, and I’ll be inking his awesome take on the Big Cheese as well. I’ve gotta do an arm correction, do a bit more flattening, and then add in the suspense item and title, and will be done. (Jay, I promise, I’ll get this sucker finished out ASAP and off to you, Scout’s honor … though I must admit to never having been a Scout.) I’ll probably give it my own spin on the inks just for fun as well when the feeling hits, too. So … hmmm, just what IS Dr. Sivana up to, and will Captain Marvel be able to stop the little evil rat-bastard? Stay tuned, folks!

Thanks for the shout-out, Tom
Comicopia is definitely still around and folks are more than welcome to download “sampler” PDFs found in the ‘eCopia’ section of our web site
Dang! This is looking good! I had to crack up when you said that you were going to ink a version yourself, as I’m half-finished with inking mine as well! WE’RE NUTS!
Mike, I give one out every chance I get.
I even put my ‘Copia Spirit cover and a link on the back of my comic, “Circle City Tales #1″. Comicopia has truly pushed, inspired and touched me in ways I hadn’t expected. Like, this cover, for instance. I don’t think I ever would’ve attempted to draw Captain Marvel, or superheroes, if not for this wonderful APA. YES, Jay, we are TOTALLY off our rockers (and thanks for the kind words! I am now a huge Cap’n Marvel fan). Please put your inked version in your ‘zine so folks can compare. I think we should lead off our ‘zines with our self-inked covers. Anyway, I’m almost finished and will post and send your way in the next day or so.
