So this pas holiday weekend I was busy prepping equipment for my bees, which are Russian. I am about to split my hive, creating two Russian hives. And as a cartoonist, what better way to identify my hives than with appropriate decor? Also, the bees are excellent at discerning patterns, so decorating the hives actually helps them.
Most definitely I had to, just had to put Boris and Natasha on my first two hives, from “The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show”, natch. I’d never drawn theses characters before. I got to “feeling it” in no time. The little drawings are my first attempt, and the larger one my second go at these two. The third drawing was completed in pencil then painted on my hive boxes. Check an upcoming post on our veggie blog for those shots. I gotta say, drawing these characters really made me happy and was tons of fun to do. I also enjoyed drawing large and in a pencil line so dense it’s indelible. I definitely have to do Sherman and Peabody at some point, as they’re my favorites.
