Inspired by an out of print Henry C. Pitz book, I decided to warm up Saturday with a direct ink sketch using a Hunt 102 on some pebble board. I’ve never felt so at peace drawing than doing direct ink with this crowquill. I actually managed to inspire myself. I’m now contemplating doing all of my work either direct ink or with a bare minimum gesture pencil line to map out basic shapes and composition and then just go for it. I urge you to do the same. It’s an adventure: a little scary but exciting to see what’s next! Speaking of which, I’ve formed a meetup group called “Cartooning Club!” It’s for amateurs and pros alike, and anyone inbetween. Our first hands-on meeting will be announced soon. Go to http://www.meetup.com/CartooningClub/ to sign up and find out the latest.
I had an amazing day getting some Golden & Silver Age treasure at Rebel Base Comics & Toys blowout sale, where I met some great friends and found some Golden Age treasure. At the end of which I was greeted on this unusually cold 60-degree day by a lone honeybee at my truck. I found that ironic given my first-year beekeeper status. Isn’t she lovely? I wished her well and she flew off. I couldn’t believe she was out on such a cold misty raining day. But what a day for adventure, eh?
